Since Miriam Aïda’s successful album Meu Brasil, recorded with some of Rio de Janeiro´s finest musicians, she has continued to explore the Brazilian music in its different facets with the devoted musicians in this group. On Letras ao Brasil the Swedish dreamy and romantic melodies are given a new flow and a natural sounding smoothness with the beautiful Brazilian- Portuguese language. Miriam presents an intimate setting with voice, acoustic guitar and percussion who delivers the dynamic variation from a gentle whisper to the carnival-feeling of Rio and expressive Afro-Samba from Bahia. Letras ao Brasil contains new-written poetry in Portuguese by highly acclaimed Brazilian poets Guilem Rodrigues da Silva and Etel Frota.

La Troba Kung-Fú Coming to the U.K. Direct from Barcelona La Troba Kung-Fú return to London after making their UK debut at this year’s La Linea festival. Troba Kung-Fú were formed by singer and accordionist Joan Garriga from the ashes of another great Barcelona band, Dusminguet. Troba Kung-Fú’s innovation has been to weld Colombian cumbia to the dance rhythms of gypsy Rumba Catalana, seasoned with dub to deliver a manic and electrifying live show. The band are stepping off their November regional UK tour with soulmates Ojos de Brujo to play this headline show. Russ Jones the Hackney Globetrotter spices the night with a set of cumbia cuts and mestizo platters.
Drum Poems, Verse 2 Welcome to ‘Drumpoems Verse 2’, a selection of tracks created by Zurich’s Drumpoet Community and compiled by label head-honchos Alex Dallas and Ron Shiller. Drawing heavily on the Alpine backdrop of their home city and its relaxed vibe, the artists have assembled a selection of exclusive tracks and one-off edits to reflect the rhythm of Zurich and it’s cosmopolitan feel. Essentially it’s music with soul – but don’t think vocals – it’s about the depth of the electronic music, and how, when executed with the panache of this group of Zoorichans, it moves your body and soul. Friends of the community were happy to lend a hand on the album, and so we find brand new tracks from Cavalier, The Lost Men, Langenberg, Quarion, Kawabata, Azuni, Hunch a previously unreleased track from DC and special Edits from Manuel Tur & Dplay, Soultourist and Crowdpleaser & Ly Sander.
Silk Road Ensemble Off The Map Over the years, the Silk Road Ensemble has evolved from a group of strangers, brought together by artistic director Yo-Yo Ma, into a close-knit band of friends. On November 10, World Village presents Off the Map, a testament to that transformation, as the Silk Road Project celebrates its 10th anniversary. Featuring compositions by Gabriela Frank, Angel Lam, Evan Ziporyn and Osvaldo Golijov and the playing of such renowned superstars as Kayhan Kalhor, Wu Man, Cristina Pato and Wu Tong, the Ensemble’s collective spirit shines through, proving great things can happen when strangers meet. The Silk Road Ensemble is a collective of approximately sixty internationally renowned musicians, composers, arrangers, visual artists and storytellers from more than twenty countries. Each ensemble member’s career illustrates a unique response to what is one of the artistic challenges of our times: nourishing global connections while maintaining the integrity of art rooted in an authentic tradition.
