An infectious summer anthem, “Dancing” is a collaboration between UK soul legend Omar and UK bass music don Zed Bias (aka Maddslinky), due out on Tru Thoughts as a digital single on 27th June, plus an upfront limited 12” on 9th May for tastemakers and vinyl junkies.
Morphing the talents of two heavyweights in their respective musical spheres “Dancing” manages to be both a catchy, radio-friendly modern soul song and a completely killer club cut. The staccato steel drum hook kicks in like nothing else, grabs you by the lapels and shakes you to your feet.
“Dancing” continues an immensely successful partnership: Omar featured on Maddslinky’s 2010 single “Special”, which gained 5 star ‘Top Tune’ reviews in Mixmag, iDJ and others, as well as winning a DJ Mag Best Of British 2010 Award and receiving coverage in the likes of Fact, XLR8R and more, plus tastemaker radio play across BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra, Ministry Of Sound Radio, Resonance fm and beyond.
In July, Tru Thoughts will be re-releasing a new version of Omar’s much loved ‘Sing’ album, which features collaborations with Stevie Wonder (a fan of Omar’s music since he first heard the hit “There’s Nothing Like This” back in 1992), Estelle, Angie Stone, Common and more worldwide stars. “Dancing” is one of two new cuts added to the album for the re-release. The other is the amazing remix of original album track “It’s So…” by Bob Sinclar (the man with 15 million YouTube hits for his “Love Generation” single).
Previously signed to RCA, among other labels, and with six albums to his name, Omar‘s impressive CV also includes collaborations with Erykah Badu, Rodney P, Canitbe and Ashman, and releases on Gilles Peterson’s Talking Loud label.
Zed Bias has previously charted at no. 23 in the UK official singles chart with the garage anthem “Neighbourhood”. Now, following on from his hugely acclaimed Maddslinky album ‘Make A Change’ last year (which featured Skream, Mr Scruff, Tawiah and Jenna G as well as remixers including Toddla T and MJ Cole) “Dancing” sees him dusting off the clubbier Zed Bias moniker, once again in fine form. And later this summer we will see the release of the brand new Zed Bias album, ‘Biasonic Hotsauce’, which is already creating a massive buzz with upfront support from those ahead of the curve including BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac and Benji B, plus many other tastemakers. Also on this single you’ll find the killer instrumental cut of “Dancing”, plus “It’s So… (Zed Bias Remix)”, which is exclusive to this single release.
